Noxer Kart

Project from HackUPC – 2016. Multiplayer game built with OpenGLLibgdx

This project was developed during HackUPC 2016. It was a 36 hours hackathon. All the project was developed during that time, including the graphics, from scratch. Our team was composed by four members:

  • Octavi –> Graphics Designer
  • Marti Rosell –> Back-end developer
  • Ferran Coma –> Front-end and Back-end developer as well as Game Designer.
  • Dani Roca –> Front-end and Back-end developer as well as Game Designer and Project manager.

The game is a small version of Mario Kart. The idea was to use it to learn as well as create a different idea of “console”. That game could be ran into any computer and played with any mobile device. The design of the game was a combination of 2D with 3D, where the map was a 2D plane while karts were 3D, so we had to play with the camera to make it look right. The game has one track with two cars. The screen is split by two, each side for each player.

The control was like the Wii console. When you switch on the game, you have to configure both game pads. In order to do this, you needed to open an Android application for the client (made with Libgdx aswell). That application was used to connect the device or gamepad controller via bluetooth, to the server, which was the main computer, where the game is being rendered. The driving of each car was done using the accelerometer from the smartphone.

The source code of the project can be found on the following link, which belongs to one of my partner’s github:
